چکیده

Background Edema-sensitive T2-weighted cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) based on fast spin-echo (FSE) imaging is a useful modality to detect acute myocardial injury. Conventional T2-weighted CMR uses three inversion-recovery (IR) pulses, the first two to null the blood signal, and the last one (STIR) to null fat signal, but suffers from reduced myocardial signal and signal dropout. We compared the performances of two different fat suppression T2-weighted FSE sequences: a) STIR (FSE-STIR) and b) spectral adiabatic inversion recovery fat suppression (FSE-SPAIR) for detection of myocardial injury in patients with cardiomyopathy.

T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance in acute cardiac disease

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) using T2-weighted sequences can visualize myocardial edema. When compared to previous protocols, newer pulse sequences with substantially improved image quality have increased its clinical utility. The assessment of myocardial edema provides useful incremental diagnostic and prognostic information in a variety of clinical settings associated with acute my...

T1-mapping accurately detects acute myocardial edema: a comparison to T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging

Background T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is commonly used to detect myocardial edema. T1-mapping is also sensitive to changes in free water content and is quantitative, obviating the need for a presumed normal reference region to detect changes within affected myocardium. We hypothesized that T1-mapping using the novel sequence Shortened Modified Look-Locker Inversion Reco...

Assessment of intramyocardial hemorrhage by T1-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance in reperfused acute myocardial infarction

BACKGROUND Intramyocardialhemorrhage (IMH) reflects severe reperfusion injury in acute myocardial infarction. Non-invasive detection of IMH by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) may serve as a surrogate marker to evaluate the effect of preventive measures to reduce reperfusion injury and hence provide additional prognostic information. We sought to investigate whether IMH could be detected...

Detecting acute reperfusion myocardial hemorrhage with CMR: a translational study

Background Hemorrhage is a frequent hallmark of large acute reperfused myocardial infarctions (rMI). Recently, there has been a growing interest in CMR for noninvasive detection of hemorrhage in rMI. While T2*and T2-weighted CMR have been used for this purpose, there is a lack of consensus on which of these methods is the most appropriate and reliable. We investigated the relative abilities of ...

Delayed enhancement and T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging differentiate acute from chronic myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND Delayed enhancement (DE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) detects acute and chronic myocardial infarction (MI) by visualizing contrast media accumulation in infarcted segments. T2-weighted CMR depicts infarct-related myocardial edema as a marker of acute but not chronic myocardial injury. We investigated the clinical utility of an approach combining both techniques to differen...
